Leading Edinburg into a New Era of Growth

Mayor Omar Ochoa is a native son of Edinburg, Texas, who brings a background in complex litigation, finance, and dedicated public service to the leadership of his hometown. Elected Mayor in November 2025, he is committed to executing a clear vision: making Edinburg the leading engine for economic opportunity, innovation, and quality of life in the Rio Grande Valley.

Deep Roots and a Foundation of Service

Mayor Ochoa’s commitment to service is shaped by his roots in Edinburg. Born and raised in the city, he is the son of Joe Ochoa, a pharmacist and former Mayor, and Lydia Ochoa, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He frequently credits his parents, who began their careers as migrant laborers, with instilling the values of education, hard work, and civic involvement that define his leadership today.

His history of civic engagement began during his academic career at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, and Economics. While there, he was elected Student Body President, becoming the first Latino to serve in the position. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Professional Accounting and became a licensed CPA.

A Career Defined by Integrity and Excellence

The unique skillset Mayor Ochoa brings to City Hall is forged by his elite legal and financial background. A graduate of the University of Texas Law School, he became the first Latino Editor in Chief of the prestigious Texas Law Review. He then completed two federal clerkships before working at one of the nation’s top trial firms. As a nationally recognized attorney, he has utilized his expertise to recover hundreds of millions of dollars for clients in complex civil litigation, including landmark antitrust and fraud cases.

This professional experience directly informs his approach to city leadership, which emphasizes integrity and fiscal accountability. Before becoming Mayor, Mr. Ochoa served the community for nearly six years as the Edinburg City Attorney (2018–2024). In this role, he was the chief legal advisor to the City Council, successfully securing millions of dollars in state funds for local projects and establishing himself as a champion of open government and transparency in Texas.

A Bold Vision for Edinburg’s Future

As Mayor, his administration is focused on "swinging for the fences" to ensure the city's best days are always ahead. His core priorities include:

  • Economic Growth: Aggressively recruiting businesses that bring high-paying jobs in technology, healthcare, and advanced trades.

  • Infrastructure: Committing to comprehensive road and drainage master plans to alleviate flooding and improve the daily quality of life for residents.

  • Accountability: Modernizing city operations and institutionalizing accountability across all departments to safeguard taxpayer dollars and ensure effective governance.

Mayor Ochoa resides in Edinburg with his wife, Leah Wise, and is dedicated to fostering a government that moves with speed, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the citizens he serves.
